Kim Kardashian is suing a US website after they claimed she faked being the victim of a robbery at her Paris apartment.

The reality star, 35, is suing MediaTakeOut.com and its owner Fred Mwangaguhunga for libel.

Kardashian was bound, gagged and robbed of a reported $10 million (£8 million) worth of jewellery by five men earlier this month.

The lawsuit filed in federal court in New York by Kardashian attorney Andrew Brettler on Tuesday said the mother-of-two had been “victimised” by the website in question, which published articles referring to her as a “liar and a thief”.

The lawsuit claims: "After having been the victim of a horrific and traumatic armed robbery in France, Kim Kardashian returned to the United States only to again be victimized, but this time by an online gossip tabloid that published a series of articles in early October 2016 referring to her a liar and thief.”

Brettler says in the complaint that MediaTakeOut.com claimed Kardashian "faked the robbery, lied about the violent assault, and then filed a fraudulent claim with her insurance company to bilk her carrier out of millions of dollars.”

According to the lawsuit, Mr Mwangaguhunga refused to publish a retraction and apology.

MediaTakeOut.com has yet to comment.

The lawsuit came hours after a controversial costume company advertised a Halloween outfit inspired by Kardashian’s attack.

California-based Costumeish created a "Parisian Heist Robbery Victim Costume Kit" complete with Kardashian’s signature black sunglasses, her $4million ring, a mouth gag and rope.

The costume sparked outrage and has since been removed from the company’s website.

Speaking to Ellen DeGeneres she thanked fans for their support and said Kim is being supported by her “close” family.
