Roberto Martinez says he is not concerned by speculation linking Ross Barkley and John Stones with big-money moves from Everton.

It was reported this morning that Liverpool will bid £38million for 20-year-old England midfielder Barkley in the summer.

There have also been reports that Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham and Manchester United are all interested in 19-year-old defender Stones.

“According to speculation, we turned down £50m from Manchester United [for Barkley] so we certainly wouldn’t accept £38m from Liverpool,” said Everton manager Martinez. “I think it’s enjoyable to speak about speculation. It shows how well our players are doing and those are the type of football compliments that we want.”

Asked about the interest in Stones, Martinez said: “It’s a good sign. It’s not bad for a young man just starting his career.”

Tomorrow night, Everton host Crystal Palace hoping to cement their bid for fourth place but Martinez knows the visitors will be tough to break down.

“You look at Palace and in my eyes they are the best defensive set-up in this League, especially when Tony Pulis arrived at the club,” he said.
