Adele used her Brits acceptance speech to support fellow pop star Kesha.

The British superstar, who was the big winner of the night, took the opportunity to voice her support for the American singer as she collected the award for Best British Female Solo Artist.

Despite being signed to Sony, the 27-year-old publically backed Kesha who is trying to negotiate her way out of a contract with the record label.

After accepting the award, Adele told the crowd: “I am beyond words in gratitude. thank you is not enough but it is all I have. A million times over and forever thank you.

“The support I have received has left my face swollen from tears. I love you all so much. A statement too large for this format is coming…”

She then added: “I’d like to take this moment to publicly support Kesha.”

The 28-year-old is trying to get out of her contract with the label after alleging that producer Dr Luke sexually assaulted her.

Dr Luke – real name Lukasz Sebastian Gottwald – denies all of the allegations.

A number of pop stars have spoken out in support of Kehsa, including Demi Lovato, Lily Allen and Lady Gaga.

Taylor Swift has personally donated $250,000 to Kesha to help pay her legal fees.
