Melanie Brown broke her silence on her eye condition to tell fans the “real truth” about “going blind in her right eye”.

Brown, who was rushed to hospital with sight problems last week, told fans that she had an “awful experience” before being diagnosed with iritis (inflammation of the iris) in her right eye and uveitis (inflammation of the middle layer of the eye) in the left.

Alongside a snap of her wearing an eyepatch, Brown wrote: “Just so you know the real truth. I had an awful experience last week when I went blind in my right eye and my left eye went blurry.”

Brown went on to blast reports that she was “ok” and had experienced this “many times before”, saying: “Just to be clear I was NOT ok and this has NEVER EVER happened to me”.

“I was actually in a lot of pain and very very scared but thanks to the incredible eye specialists in A&E at London’s Moorfields Hospital and after at Luton and Dunstable University Hospital I was diagnosed by and eye specialist with severe IRITIS in my right eye and UVEITIS in my left eye.”

Brown explained that she was taking “multiple prescription heavy duty eye drops and other medication to keep the inflammation under control” and “would be dealing with it and will be for the next 3/4 months to fully get it under control”. She added that she was “no longer worried that it would get worse”.

Signing off, Brown asked where she could get a Scary Spice eyepatch ahead of the band’s reunion tour.

It was claimed that the “frantic” star was in a “really bad way” before further reports claimed it had happened before.

The Spice Girls kick off their tour on Friday in Dublin before playing concerts in Manchester, Coventry and Sunderland. They will headline three shows at London’s Wembley Stadium.
