A guide to the Winter Love Island cast's celebrity connections: From Sophie Piper's sister to Paige Turley's A-list ex

Will "My sister's Rochelle Humes" be the new "My dad's Danny Dyer"?

From "My dad's Dani Dyer" to "I used to be in Blazin' Squad," some of Love Island's most memorable moments have stemmed from contestants' links to the world of showbiz.

The 2019 series saw hopefuls including Curtis Pritchard (brother of Strictly's AJ) and Tommy (brother of Tyson) Fury name drop their famous family members.

Cast your mind further back and you might remember Marcel Somerville's constant references to "the" Blazin' Squad and Zara Holland's oh-so-casual mentions of her Miss Great Britain title.

This year, the show's producers have continued the trend of casting Islanders with tenuous claims to fame, with the sibling of an Apprentice hopeful and the ex-girlfriend of a hit singer all looking for love in South Africa.

Before the new series kicks off, here's a guide to the class of 2020's connections to the stars...

Sophie Piper is Rochelle Humes’ sister

Former Saturdays star Rochelle Humes is the half-sister of Love Island hopeful Sophie. Humes’ parents split when she was three years old, and her father Mark Piper went on to have three more children with a new partner: 24-year-old Lili, 23-year-old Jake and 21-year-old Sophie.

Speaking to Giovanna Fletcher on her Happy Mum, Happy Baby podcast last year, the This Morning guest host revealed that she had very little contact with her half-siblings until Love Island winner Kem Cetinay gave her Lili’s phone number.

“He was chatting away and said, ‘I got to talk to you… as soon as I became a celeb, I promised my friend Lili that I would talk to you as she’s your sister on your dad’s side,’” she told Fletcher.

“I knew of her and met up with her when I was five, but it was so complicated as they were a lot younger and my dad wasn’t involved.”

Rochelle, who is married to former JLS singer Marvin, revealed that after meeting up for the first time, the siblings have “spoken every day since,” adding: “It’s like we’ve known each other all our lives.”

When Sophie was announced as a contestant on the show, Rochelle urged her to “bring us back a keeper” in an Instagram post, while Marvin joked: “Is this how far @rochellehumes will go to make me watch Love Island?!”

Paige Turley is Lewis Capaldi’s ex-girlfriend

24-year-old Paige Turley, who hails from West Lothian, dated the singer for “about a year” when she was “about 17 or 18.” She says that things end “really amicably” between the pair and they are “still pals.” Will the star weigh in on his ex's stint in the villa in one of his infamous Instagram stories? Only time will tell.

She has also been linked to X Factor hopeful Garry Greig, who missed out on being selected to join One Direction in 2010 and then returned to the show in 2016.

… and she appeared on Britain’s Got Talent

Paige, who is also a singer, had her first shot at reality TV fame in 2012 when she appeared on Britain’s Got Talent.

She performed Skinny Love by Bon Iver in her initial audition and made it through to the semi-finals, when she sang It Will Rain by Bruno Mars. However, she lost out to ballroom dancers Kai and Natalia in the judge’s vote.

Eve Gale, who is one half of Love Island’s first twin duo, says that Kylie Jenner’s ex-boyfriend Tyga approached her on Instagram after she tagged him in a post.

“We were both at an event and I posted an Instagram story tagging him,” she explained.

“He then messaged me afterwards and we spoke on WhatsApp. Then when me and Jess were in Ibiza, he was there again. He asked me to meet him but we arrived the day he left.”

She also claims that rapper Pop Smoke dropped her a message, too.

Love Island returns to ITV2 on Junday January 12 at 9pm.
