R Kelly interview on CBS with Gayle King: Can I watch this in the UK? When does it air? What has he said?

The R&B singer refuted all claims that he held women against their will

R. Kelly has broken his silence in an explosive interview after being charged with sexually abusing underage girls.

The R&B singer was visibly emotional as he protested his innocence over multiple allegations against him, including holding several women against their will and forcing them to perform sexual acts.

R. Kelly, who has been released on bail after being arrested in Chicago on February 22, was interviewed by Gayle King on CBS This Morning.

The singer was initially charged with 10 counts of aggravated sexual abuse against four victims, three of whom were between the ages of 13 and 17 when their alleged attacks took place.

The charges amounted after the recent release of the Lifetime documentary Surviving R. Kelly, in which women recounted the abuse they say they endured at the hands of the singer.

Further excerpts from the exclusive interview will air on Wednesday and Thursday. A second interview with two of R Kelly’s alleged victims will also feature on CBS later this week.

When asked by King if he held women against their will, R. Kelly replied: “That’s stupid. Quit playing, I didn’t do this stuff.

“Use your common sense. Forget the blogs, forget how you feel about me. Hate me if you want to, love me if you want to but just use your common sense.

“How stupid would it be for me, with my crazy past and what I’ve been through – oh right now I just think I need to be a monster, and hold girls against their will, chain them up in my basement, and don’t let them eat, and don’t let them out.”

Kelly became more aggravated as King persisted with her questioning, responding: “Stop it. Quit playing! Quit playing! I didn’t do this stuff. This is not me!”

The singer also suggested that it was unfair that the controversy surrounding him was being constantly linked to his past, emphasising that he had been acquitted in one case already.

He said: “I beat my case. When you beat something – we can’t double jeopardy me like that, it’s not fair, it’s not fair to nobody. When you beat your case, you beat your case.”

When will the interview air?

More of King’s interview with R. Kelly will air at 7am EST (12 am GMT) tomorrow.

King also interviewed two young women who currently live with the singer, Azriel Clary and Joycelyn Savage. The parents of Savage persist that their daughter was kidnapped by R. Kelly, although she denies that she is there against her will.

The interview will air on Friday, March 8 on CBS This Morning.
