Game of Thrones news: THAT Arya Stark and Gendry scene from episode 2 has set Twitter alight

Spoilers ahead for Twitter's reaction to that scene between Maisie Williams and Joe Demspie

Ever since Arya (played by Maisie Williams) met Gendry (played by Skins star Joe Dempsie), there have been hints that the two will inevitably get together. Of course, the most major hint is that it would be fulfilling Robert Baratheon's earlier words. He once told Ned Stark, "I have a son. You have a daughter. We'll join our houses."

In the 69th episode, Gendry admits that he is Baratheon's illegitimate son. But in an episode full of twists and turns, that's not even the most exciting portion of the evening when it comes to Gendry.

Arya loses her virginity to Gendry completely on her terms, taking her top off and telling Gendry, "I want to know what it feels like before I die," after grilling him on how many women he's been with.

The scene was so wild that Twitter was up in arms - and at first, Maisie Williams didn't believe it was real. "At first, I thought it was a prank. I was like, ‘Yo, good one.’ And [the showrunners were] like, ‘No, we haven’t done that this year," the actress told Entertainment Weekly.

It's also the first time the 22-year-old actress has had a love scene on a program known for its nudity. But she was just as excited as Twitter. "It was really interesting because it’s a very human relationship for Arya. This is something she’s stayed away from, an emotion we’ve never really seen her engage with. David and Dan were like, ‘It’s the end of the world, what else would you have her do?’ This may be is a moment where Arya accepts death tomorrow, which she never does — ‘Not Today.’ So it was that moment where she says, ‘We’re probably going to die tomorrow, I want to know what this feels like before that happens.’ It’s interesting to see Arya be a bit more human, speak more normally about things people are scared of."

We've compiled some of Twitter's best reactions to the shocking scene.

Game of Thrones fans were suitably excited since they had literally been waiting years for anything to happen between them.

Unsurprisingly, searches for Maisie Williams immediately spiked.

Some thought Arya might have another list in mind this season.

Some fans were a little uncomfortable since they felt like they grew up with the actress.

Even rapper T-Pain was excited.

Arya grilled Gendry on how many women he had slept with.

But then, the two finally got together.

Here's to a season where Arya remains the true queen.
