Wright-Phillips on the right

14 April 2012

Shaun Wright Phillips, above, will start on the right hand side of an exciting three man attack for England against Holland at Villa Park tomorrow.

England coach Sven Goran Eriksson revealed today that he plans to use the Manchester City attacker up front alongside Wayne Rooney and Michael Owen.

Wright-Phillips was expected to be forced to play on the left to accomodate David Beckham. But Eriksson now looks set to play a three-man midfield comprising of Beckham, Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard.

"I am not going to put Shaun Wright-Phillips to the left," Eriksson said. "Shaun will start on the right. He deserves his chance. He has been playing well all season and I look forward to seeing him."

Eriksson, whose team selection has been undermined by injuries to his defenders, also confirmed Jamie Carragher and Wes Brown will start the game at Villa Park in central defence.

"It's a blow that four or five central defenders are away because of injuries," he said.

"On the other hand it's good for Carragher and Brown to show what they can do at this level."
