Words that spelt trouble...

1) Patrick Vieira and Sinisa Mihajlovic (October 2000)

2) England and Slovakia (October 2002) - Emile Heskey, Ashley Cole and Kieron Dyer received an apology from the Slovakia FA for the racist abuse they suffered during a Euro 2004 qualifying tie in Bratislava.

3) Luis Boa Morte and Duncan Ferguson (February 2004) - The Fulham midfielder claimed Ferguson called him a "black ****" during a tempestuous cup tie at Goodison Park last season. The Scot denied the allegation and, an FA investigation decided not to take any action.

4) Ron Atkinson and Marcel Desailly (April 2004) - The former TV pundit was forced to resign from ITV Sport amid a storm of controversy for calling then Chelsea defender Desailly a "f***ing lazy thick n*****".

5) Jimmy Hill (May 2004) - The TV presenter claimed the word 'n****r' was no more offensive than saying he had a big chin. He said the words used by Atkinson were simply the "language of the football field".
