Wenger's French option

Arsene Wenger today pledged to add the Champions League title to his double Double at Highbury but at the same time kept the door open for a return to France.

"I have a contract with Arsenal and I will reach the end of that, then we will see," Wenger said. "I can't imagine finishing my life without winning the European Cup."

The 52-year-old Frenchman has four years left at Arsenal after signing a deal in December, but he is the favourite to replace Roger Lemerre when the France coach's contract ends after the 2004 European Championships.

"It all depends on what we have or haven't achieved by then," Wenger said. "You can never say never but I would be greatly surprised. If I had to leave, I would not go anywhere else in England. I know exactly where I would go, but I cannot tell you."

Wenger is not the only Frenchman whose future lies with Arsenal, as he confirmed that Patrick Vieira, Sylvian Wiltord, Thierry Henry and Robert Pires would be around next season.

"All the French players are staying," he said.

Meanwhile, Richard Wright made it clear today he is determined to become Arsenal's first-choice goalkeeper.

Wright, 24, was signed from Ipswich for £6million last summer as the long-term successor to David Seaman. He played when the England keeper was unfit and was also given a run in the FA Cup. But Seaman was restored for the Final against Chelsea.

"When you come to a club like Arsenal you can't expect to play week in, week out," he said. "But I was very disappointed not to play in the Final."

His omission prompted talk of a departure this summer and those rumours gathered momentum when Bordeaux's Ulrich Rame claimed he was on his way to Arsenal.

But Wright said: "I'm a determined person and I want to play here. I want to be Arsenal's No 1. I'll give it my best shot until I am told otherwise by the manager or anyone else involved with the club.

"When I get the opportunty to play, I will be giving it as much as possible.

"If I do speak to the manager it will be a case of seeing where I stand for next season and what's going to happen.

"I want to achieve as much as I can."
