Wenger: Fergie's lost sense of reality

14 April 2012

Despite calls for peace from the managers' union, Arsene Wenger does not appear ready to let his war of words with Sir Alex Ferguson blow over.

Ferguson accused Wenger of confronting him with hands raised after Manchester United's 2-0 Barclays Premiership win over Arsenal on October 24, the day the champions saw their 49-game unbeaten league run brought to an end.

The Scot also called Wenger's failure to apologise for the behaviour of his players after the match a "disgrace".

Ferguson claims the Arsenal boss knows the identity of the players who allegedly threw pizza and soup at him after the final whistle.

His comments in a newspaper interview were swiftly followed by a Wenger rebuke - as the Frenchman called on the FA to charge Ferguson with bringing the game into disrepute, while insisting he will never speak about the Old Trafford boss again.

Representatives of the League Managers' Association have called for an end to the hostilities, but Wenger is again making headlines for all the wrong reasons today.

Talking to French television station TPS, he declared: "Ferguson's out of order. He has lost all sense of reality.

"He is going out looking for a confrontation, then asking the person he is confronting to apologise.

"He's pushed the cork in a bit far this time and lost a lot of credibility by saying what he said."

Wenger could also not resist a cheeky jibe at United's lucky escape against Tottenham recently, when Spurs were denied a clear-cut goal that was adjudged not to have crossed the line.

"We need video replays," said Wenger. "United would be mid-table if officials had the benefit of them."
