Wembley loses Masters snooker tournament

13 April 2012

The Masters will be moved from Wembley to Alexandra Palace from next season, World Snooker announced today.

The tournament has been played at the Wembley complex since 1979, but snooker boss Barry Hearn believes relocation will breathe life into the competition.

Hearn said: "Alexandra Palace is one of the iconic buildings in London. I've staged boxing matches there and the World Darts Championship which has been an enormous success."

It was also confirmed that the UK Championship will relocate from Telford to York's Barbican Centre, which staged the event from 2001 to 2006.

Meanwhile Judd Trump raced into a 7-1 lead over Graeme Dott in the World Snooker Championship quarter-finals this morning while Mark Williams moved 5-3 ahead in the first session of his last-eight clash with Mark Allen.
