We will revolt, warns Terry

Real Madrid are reported to be waiting to offer Mourinho an escape route if he decides to quit Chelsea after voicing his unhappiness at a perceived lack of backing in the transfer window.

The club's board are also understood to be unhappy that Andriy Shevchenko has been dropped and are believed to have told Mourinho that they would like his No 2, Steve Clarke, replaced.

And yesterday, after Chelsea's 4-0 win over Wigan, Mourinho refused to confirm that he would be at the club next season, saying: "I have a contract at Chelsea until 2010 and I love working at Chelsea but football is football and you never know what will happen next."

But Terry insisted the players would try their best to force the club to keep their manager.

"We all agree that we don't want Jose to go and if it takes five or six of the top players to tell them, then that's what we are prepared to do," he said.

"He's the best in the business, there's no doubt about that and he will be for the next 20 years. That's what we want at Chelsea — the best coach and the best players."

Didier Drogba has already warned that he would be tempted to leave if Mourinho departs and Terry said: "We don't want to see any of our top people leaving and that's why Jose must stay. We are all loyal to Jose and not just the ones in the team but also the ones trying to break through."

Terry admitted that recent speculation has caused problems within the club. "It's putting pressure on everyone at the club but I'm convinced Jose will still be here next season."

Due to problems in a calf following back surgery, Terry missed Chelsea's win at Stamford Bridge yesterday that kept the pressure on Manchester United, 3-1 victors over Aston Villa, at the top of the Premiership.

Terry said: "It's still sore and no one can tell me exactly when I'll be back. I hope it's days rather than weeks and I'd like to be back for Liverpool next Saturday."
