We deserve title - Lampard

Midfielder Frank Lampard believes Barclays Premier League champions-elect Chelsea fully deserve the title for the way they have performed at a crucial stage of the season.

Carlo Ancelotti's side responded to a shock 4-2 home defeat by Manchester City at the end of February by putting together a nine-match run in which they won seven, drew one and lost one. During that spell they crucially beat title rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford, defeated Liverpool at Anfield and put seven past both Aston Villa and Stoke.

"We have had a couple of moments in the season when we have not been at our best and the momentum went back to United," said Lampard. "But in the last 10 games or so our performances have been fantastic, so has the attitude of the lads."

He added: "We have got a head of steam up. There is still another game to go but we are in a good position.

"If you are going to win titles you are going to have these moments.

"Whether it is a crunch moment like on SUnday, when we played Liverpool with United playing Sunderland after us, or whether it be a game at home which you should win comfortably.

"You have to do the job right."

Lampard scored the second goal which killed off Rafael Benitez's side at Anfield with a trademark run into the penalty area and close-range finish from Nicolas Anelka's cross.

Manager Ancelotti paid tribute to the 31-year-old, who has had another great season in front of goal.

"I am not surprised. Lampard has scored 26 goals in the season and he has these fantastic skills," said the Italian. "He moves into the box at the right time and he always does this."
