Walker quits Spurs for £2m

Goalkeeper Ian Walker was expected to complete a £2 million move from Tottenham to Leicester today, paving the way for Blackburn's Alan Kelly to join Spurs.

England international Walker has decided to leave Spurs because he is not prepared to spend another season as understudy to Scotland's Neil Sullivan.

Leicester manager Peter Taylor said: "The deal is as good as done. We needed another goalkeeper because of the injuries to Tim Flowers. With Ian joining us, that means we now have three very good goalkeepers trying to get into the one position."

Republic of Ireland International Kelly, who has grown frustrated at Blackburn after the emergence of Brad Friedel, will cost Spurs £600,000 and the transfer is expected to be finalised this week.

Meahwhile, Chris Day, another ex-Spurs goalkeeper, was due to switch from Watford to Queens Park Rangers on a free transfer today, subject to passing a medical.
