Wales set to name new boss

13 April 2012

The Football Association of Wales will formally announce the successor to Mark Hughes later today.

They have called a press conference at a hotel outside Cardiff "in relation to the post of national team manager".

The FAW made the announcement after an 11-man sub committee interviewed the three candidates - John Toshack, Dean Saunders and Phillipe Troussier - at a hotel near Heathrow Airport yesterday.

The recommendations from the sub-committee are being forwarded to the full council, who are scheduled to meet today and rubber-stamp the decision.

The race to replace Hughes as Wales manager had been narrowed down to three candidates after former Liverpool boss Gerard Houllier decided to decline an interview with FAW officials.

Troussier's situation, however, is confused as he is also in talks with Ghana about taking over the African nation.

It is understood the new manager will receive a four-year contract worth £1million plus bonuses for reaching a major tournament.

Wales' form has slumped in the past year and they have endured a frustrating start to their World Cup qualifying campaign.

They currently lie second bottom of the group after picking up only two points from four games.
