Unsteady Eddie names side early

Eddie Jones today revealed his paranoia about a mole in the Australian camp by naming his semifinal side to face New Zealand 24 hours early.

The coach has been conducting an internal investigation into how the Australian newspaper has been able to report his line-ups a day before they are officially released.

Patently, his search for the mole has failed and Jones was reduced to tearing up his plans and putting out an unchanged starting XV that has a major worry over George Smith, the flanker, who must pass a fitness test for Saturday's match.

Wallaby replacement back Matt Giteau has failed to recover from an ankle problem so will not be able to feature on the bench.

New Zealand have also named an unchanged line up, with vicecaptain Tana Umaga failing in his bid to make the team after rupturing the posterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in their opening World Cup match against Italy.

"Tana is just not sharp enough," said All Black coach John Mitchell today. "He has recovered from the injury but has been out for too long."

While Jones was bringing his plans forward, England delayed naming their team to face France in Sunday's semi-final by 24 hours in a bid to get either Josh Lewsey or Iain Balshaw fit.

The side is now set to be announced on Thursday which means Austin Healey, the Leicester utility back, will have an agonising-wait to discover if his flight from London - which arrived this morning - was for nothing.

Healey, who is staying at a separate hotel as he is not yet officially part of the England squad, will only remain in Sydney if Lewsey or Balshaw are ruled out.
