United fined £25,000 but Rio’s in clear

Manchester United have been fined £25,000 by the Football Association after picking up seven bookings against Chelsea.

Clubs are punished if they receive more than six yellow cards in a game and the FA confirmed the penalty today.

However, Rio Ferdinand will not face any action over his rant at Mike Riley as the referee did not mention it in his report.

Meanwhile, John Obi Mikel has taunted United by insisting Chelsea outplayed them yesterday.

The Blues midfielder revealed the desire to maintain the club's long unbeaten record at Stamford Bridge was the inspiration behind their comeback that was capped by Salomon Kalou's equaliser.

Mikel said: "I'm disappointed we didn't get the three points but we played much better than them."

Chelsea are unbeaten at home for 85 games and Mikel believes his team's fightback proves they have the upper hand.

He added: "The home record was one of the things we discussed. We wanted to make sure we kept it going."

Blues defender Ricardo Carvalho was today due to undergo a scan on the knee injury he suffered yesterday, but Deco (thigh) should not be out long term.
