Turner's Earners - Punters in Heaven at Kempton

13 April 2012

Sir Michael Stoute boasts an unparalleled reputation with older horses and HEAVEN SENT (Kempton, 2.10) looks a solid bet to enhance that brilliant record today.

Stoute excels with progeny of her sire Pivotal who often come into their own later in their careers and some of her form in Group races last term entitle the five-year-old to go close in this afternoon's Listed affair.

Her third to Creachadoir in the Group Three Joel Stakes at Newmarket was another sound performance at the conclusion of a long season and, although the lack of a recent run is a slight concern, she boasts a fair record when fresh.

With Monkey Glas and Party Boss in opposition in the sevenfurlong handicap there looks plenty of pace for VITZNAU (Kempton, nap, 3.55) to charge at late on.

Richard Hannon's four-year-old could never land a blow in the Lincoln, but a mile at Doncaster was always likely to stretch his stamina reserves and today's conditions look much more suitable.

The one slight concern is Richard Hughes as he has yet to truly click with the Val Royal colt, so much so that the duo have been beaten less than a length on five occasions.

However, the Irishman's style of riding seems perfectly suited to Vitznau in theory and I'm hopeful that the anticipated strong gallop can help set the race up for the combination to score.

COUNCELLOR (Kempton, 4.30) is hardly the least exposed horse in training, but he rates decent each-way value in a typically competitive handicap later on the card.

Stef Liddiard's charge is a far from frequent visitor to the winner's enclosure, but last week's run behind King Of Dixie was another fine effort and the odds on offer are ample compensation for his recent quiet spell.

DON'T PANIC (Doncaster, nb, 3.35) impressed plenty of form judges with a scintillating reappearance on Town Moor in the Spring Mile and rates a good wager to follow up.

Peter Chapple-Hyam's classy miler clocked a faster time than the Lincoln winner Smokey Oakey and his form has already taken a boost with victory for the runner-up Benandonner at Southwell.

The son of Fath is unbeaten in three runs at a mile and looked the type to make up into a Group horse when successful three weeks ago.

Today's lay vote goes to Valrhona (Doncaster, 5.15).

MY BETTING WEEK

ON THE CLOCK - BEFORTYFOUR: Stamped himself a smart 3yo sprinter in the making with an awesome Lingfield display on Tuesday.

ONE FOR THE NOTEBOOK - ROYALIST: Pulled hard yet still boasted the quality to rout a decent field of maidens at Doncaster yesterday.

JOCKEY TO FOLLOW - RYAN MANIA: Sounds more like a WWF wrestler, but won impressively on Raysrock at Kelso on Monday and looks great value for his claim.

ONE TO BE WARY OF - BALLYVOGE: Handed Tony Dobbin a farewell winner at Carlisle on Thursday, but was hardly impressive in doing so.
