Trophy final delight for Lister

13 April 2012

The third Evening Standard Television Trophy Final at Wimbledon last night was a triumph for greyhound racing with marathon newcomer Sexy Delight edging out Spenwood Wizard in a titanic finish to land the £6,000 first prize.

In a race which will arguably go down as the best TV Trophy final in the history of this prestigious event, the Charlie Lister pair of Drumsna Cross and Sexy Delight went off at a rate of knots. The latter took charge at the seventh bend and looked set to run out a clear winner.

However, Spenwood Wizard loomed and closed the gap in the home straight. Flying down the outside, Spenwood Wizard just ran out of ground as Sexy Delight stuck her neck out to take out the final by a head.

The unlucky dog in the race was Hollinwood Poppy. Last year's winner was piercing through the field when she was checked at the penultimate turn. She picked up again to finish third.

The victory capped a memorable year for trainer Lister, handler of Derby winner Rapid Ranger, who had long earmarked this competition for the winner.

"We thought she would win this race 12 months ago, she really is a cracking bitch and there's more to come," said Lister.
