Tring take St Joe's scalp

Jim Hooley|Daily Mail13 April 2012

Tring School claimed another big scalp as they marched into the Daily Mail Under 18 Vase quarter-finals for the first, outplaying St Joseph's, Ipswich in wet and muddy conditions to win 29-5.

'They had an enormous pack,' said Tring coach Rob Edwards, 'but we got in our first-up tackle, out-ruckedthem and picked and drove well. When we got the ball out to the backs they had the pase and penetration required. It was our best all-round performance. Each and every player performed well.'

Tring got on top early, pinning St Joseph's in their own half and stealing a lot of their ball. Flanker Adam Taylor scored their first try after 15 minutes, Tom Gibbs converting and there was second from outside centre Chris Salmon. St Joseph's scored out wide to make it 12-5 at half time.

Tring's superior fitness told in the second half when they ran in three more tries from Gibbs, Toby Prescott and Mark Redwood. Gibbs added one conversion in a very comprehensive victory. Tring now travel to meet St Bart's, Newbury, provisionally on February 6.
