Tim faces fine for outburst

Tim Henman was today under investigation by Wimbledon officials for his obscene outburst. The British No1 could face a £5,500 fine after being warned about his language as he crashed out of the competition last night.

A bad-tempered Henman was abusive about ballboys and screamed f**k as he was beaten by Dmitry Tursunov - and the pain of his exit is set to be extended.

The Grand Slam supervisor is reviewing video of the match and a report from the umpire before deciding on whether to fine him.

One player at the Championships has already been find £300 for "an audible obscenity" but the maximum that Henman would have to pay is £5,500.

Greg Rusedski, the British No2, was fined £1,500 two years ago for the same offence, and there is a long list of bad boys who have paid for their foul language at Grand Slams

John McEnroe paid £7,500 in 1991 for an audible obscenity, racket and ball abuse, while Jeff Tarango was hit with a £10,000 fine in 1995 for an audible obscenity and defaulting his match at Wimbledon.

Andre Agassi and Marat Safin have also been fined for missing Press conferences.

Meanwhile, bookmakers have slashed the odds on French teenager Richard Gasquet as he marched into the third round after defeating Gilles Elseneer.

Gasquet, who is now 22-1 from 40-1, beat the Belgian 7-6, 7-6, 6-7, 6-2 and admitted that, despite having been raised on clay, he was enjoying playing on grass.

He said: "I played at Queen's and got to the quarter-finals. I won last week in Nottingham, it's all good for the confidence."

Despite his odds coming down, Gasquet is not tipping himself for the title. "I don't think I can win because I have to play five [more] matches, it's too difficult," he said.
