Thorpe fears for Tres' england future

12 April 2012

Marcus Trescothick may have played his last match for England - according to his former team-mate Graham Thorpe.

Trescothick ruled himself out of contention for England's tour commitments this winter on Wednesday because of his ongoing problems with a stress-related illness.

The 31-year-old Somerset left-hander informed the selectors he is still not ready to return - and he has now been missing from the international game since facing Pakistan last summer.

Before then, he pulled out of a Test tour of India - and subsequently missed the Ashes and World Cup.

"My concern is that a third winter is out of the equation with no real signs of things improving for him in terms of touring and going away," the ex-Surrey and England batsman told BBC Radio 5 Live.

Thorpe, who himself had to miss Test assignments for personal reasons, added: "You kind of feel we may not see him again with an England shirt on."
