Terry England's sole absentee

12 April 2012

England skipper John Terry was the only absentee from training as Steve McClaren's squad were put through their paces in a final training session before the Euro 2008 encounter with Estonia at Wembley.

Terry has already been ruled out of the game after picking up a knee injury on Wednesday and is due to have a scan on Friday afternoon at which it is hoped a clearer picture of the extent of the damage, which threatens to also keep him out of next Wednesday's crucial trip to Russia, will emerge.

Portsmouth veteran Sol Campbell is tipped to replace Terry this weekend.

Thankfully, the 33-year-old - who has pulled out of England squads with groin and hamstring injuries already this season and missed training on Tuesday with a strained Achilles - was able to take his place at training.

Campbell looks certain to partner Rio Ferdinand in central defence against Estonia, which would represent his first competitive start for England in two years.

The only other injury doubt concerned Alan Smith but the Newcastle midfielder had recovered sufficiently from a knee problem to board the team bus for Arsenal's London Colney training headquarters.
