Tendulkar losing count of Test tons

Thirsty work: Sachin Tendulkar
13 April 2012

Sachin Tendulkar hit his 42nd Test century today but then admitted he doesn't keep track of his tons.

The 35-year-old stole the show for India as they took a firm grip on the First Test against New Zealand at Seddon Park in Hamilton today.

He made 160 runs off 260 balls as India wracked up 520 runs in their first innings with the hosts then 75 for three at stumps, trailing by 166 runs in their second innings.

When he was asked about his achievement, Tendulkar said: "I wouldn't want to think about all those things. I'm a bit superstitious. Let the others count the hundreds and let me bat."

Tendulkar's innings came to a close when he edged to Ross Taylor in the slips after a superb delivery from Iain O'Brien.

Meanwhile, Ashwell Prince (119 not out) notched up his 11th Test century as South Africa eclipsed Australia's first-innings total of 209 for the loss of just two wickets in the third and final Test in Cape Town. The hosts had reached 256 by tea.
