Team Sky in £2m swoop for Bradley Wiggins

13 April 2012

Bradley Wiggins is to lead Team Sky after they agreed to pay his current team, Garmin, £2million in compensation, it was reported today.

The 29-year-old is seen as vital to Team Sky's hopes of seeing a rider from their newly formed British squad win the Tour de France within the next five years.

Wiggins, a triple Olympic champion, finished fourth in this year's Tour to equal the best ever performance by a British rider.

British Cycling performance director Dave Brailsford had already spent most of this season amassing an impressive squad.

World No3 Edvald Boasson Hagen, of Norway, currently leading the Tour of Britain, is also part of the line-up, along with British stars Steve Cummings and Geraint Thomas.
