Taylor powers through

13 April 2012

Phil Taylor demolished Dennis Smith 16-7 to set up a semi-final with Peter Manley at the World Matchplay darts tonight.

Smith missed seven darts at a double to go 4-2 up and never recovered although Taylor was well below the superb form he has shown in Blackpool so far.

"I wasn't as consistent as I was this time last year, but tonight's going to be a different matter," said Taylor after setting up a repeat of the 2002 world final, which he won to claim his 10th crown.

"Peter deserves to be where he is now and it's going to be great game tomorrow," he added.

Colin Lloyd booked his place in the last four with a 16-11 victory over Peter Evison to set up a clash with the in-form Wayne Mardle.

The Essex-based Mardle brushed aside Alan Warriner 16-8 last night.

Many had questioned whether Mardle could recover from the previous night's exertions in his epic win over world champion John Part.

However, he answered that question emphatically as he swept Warriner aside with some superb darts.
