Surrey cool on Pietersen bid

England hopeful Kevin Pietersen is unlikely to be a target for Surrey despite turning down the offer of a new contract at Nottinghamshire.

The South African-born batsman, who will tour Zimbabwe with the England one-day party next month, has been linked with a move to The Oval, but Standard Sport understands coach Steve Rixon would prefer to develop Surrey's young batting talent.

However, Surrey are poised to make one more overseas signing with Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh their top target.
