Super dozen in the Derby

Lydia Hislop13 April 2012

A dozen horses will face the starter for Saturday's £1.38 million Vodafone Derby - the same number that went to post when Galileo won last year's renewal of the Epsom classic.

Only Dubai Destination was withdrawn at today's 48-hour declaration stage, leaving Godolphin double-handed with Naheef and Moon Ballad as expected.

After a massive 37mm of rain took Epsom by surprise yesterday, Mick Kinane could yet switch mounts from Hawk Wing to High Chaparral. Whichever colt he chooses is likely to start favourite.

Epsom's clerk of the course, Andrew Cooper, believes 'good, good-to-soft in places' is the best-case scenario for Derby day.
