Tens of thousands of fans have arrived in Minnesota for this year's Super Bowl between New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles.

Supporters, many dressed head-to-toe in team colours, braved sub-zero temperatures as they gathered outside the US Bank Stadium on Sunday.

The stadium has had its capacity increased to around 73,000 so as many people as possible can enjoy the action live.

The Eagles are aiming to win their maiden Super Bowl crown at the third attempt after defeats in 1981 and 2005.

Their most recent Super Bowl heartbreak came against the Patriots 13 years ago and the Birds will hope to exact revenge on the same opponents.

Meanwhile, the Patriots are targeting a sixth 'world title' in 17 years as Tom Brady bids to become the oldest quarterback to win a Super Bowl.

As many as 70 per cent of US households are expected to tune in to the showpiece event as 30-second in-game advert slots are flogged for up to $5million (3.5million).
