Stewart stands in for Hussain
England have appointed Alec Stewart as captain for the second and final Test against Pakistan starting at Old Trafford, Manchester, 31 May.
The wicketkeeper-batsman will stand in for Nasser Hussain who broke his right thumb during the first Test at Lord's at the weekend.
Chairman of selectors David Graveney said: "Alec has acted as stand-in captain before, both this year and last year, and he will be a very able substitute."
England's contracted players, meanwhile, are available for this week's Benson & Hedges Cup quarter-finals.
Darren Gough, Matthew Hoggard, Michael Vaughan (all Yorkshire), Andrew Caddick, Marcus Trescothick (both Somerset), Graham Thorpe and Stewart (both Surrey) will play.
Craig White will play as a batsman only for Yorkshire's second XI in a match at Scarborough.
