Sir Chris or Jess? That’s knit picking

 

A Scottish author has got in the Olympic spirit by penning a book advising readers how to knit their very own Olympians.

Carol Meldrum’s book, Knitlympics, reveals that each model should take seven hours with instructions on how to knit athletes from Jessica Ennis to Sir Chris Hoy.

She explained: “It’s a bit tongue-in-cheek and is meant to make people smile. Hopefully making your own Olympian will help capture the spirit of the Games.”

Medal heartache for hero Bradley

Thieves broke into the home of Beijing gold medallist Bradley Wiggins at the weekend and stole his competitors’ souvenir medal from the 2008 Olympics. Thankfully for the cyclist, his two gold medals from the Games were not stolen. His wife, Cath, tweeted: “Still unpleasant enough though.”

Fans won’t be left hung out to dry

In last week’s diary we mentioned that spectators will have their water bottles removed in airport-style security measures at Games venues this summer and replacements will cost £1.60 each. But LOCOG have confirmed that free drinking water will also be made available at all the venues.
