Olympic flame carried for the first time for 2012 Games

World champion open water swimmer Spiros Gianniotis, 32, above, today became the first person to carry the lit 2012 torch at a dress rehearsal for tomorrow’s ceremony at Olympia

. Wearing the 2012 torchbearer uniform, the British-born athlete said: “It’s my last Olympics and I’m half English so it’s very important to me.

“I don’t know what’s going to happen tomorrow but for me it’s the topping.”
