Hynd brothers in the final

5 September 2012

Oliver Hynd edged out brother Sam by nearly a second as both qualified for tonight’s final of the SM8 200m individual medley.

Oliver, at 17 the younger of the two brothers by three years, expects to go even faster in the final after struggling with his stroke during his heat.

“It didn’t feel as good as I wanted it to so, if I can go that fast when I’m not feeling brilliant, that’s good for tonight,” he said.

Sam is looking forward to gaining fraternal revenge. Of their rivalry, Sam said: “It’s certainly very sportsmanlike. We don’t carry any animosity outside of the pool.”

Charlotte Henshaw broke the Paralympic record set minutes earlier by Liz Johnson as the pair qualified for the final of the SB6 100m breaststroke this morning. Also in action tonight is Jim Anderson, who will be looking to secure a sixth consecutive Paralympic medal in the S2 50m backstroke.
