Two of Britain’s top athletes are the latest sport stars to back the Standard’s Get London Running campaign.

Olympic medal hopes Andy Turner and Chris Tomlinson are urging Londoners to enter the London Mile in aid of Sport Relief and the Dispossessed Fund. More than 10,000 people have signed up for the run which will raise money to help transform the lives of the capital’s most vulnerable people.

Turner, Commonwealth and European 110m hurdles champion, said: “Getting involved in the Sport Relief Mile is a great way to have fun, do something healthy but most importantly raise money for a very worthy cause.”

Around 30,000 Londoners are expected to sign up for the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile on Sunday March 25, which runs along the Mall. Those entering can choose the one, three or six-mile event.

Turner, who is the third quickest British sprint hurdler of all time, added: “It’s great to see people embracing sport whilst also raising money.”

Tomlinson, the British Indoor and Outdoor record holder in the long jump, urged readers to sign up and get running. He said: “It is a great starting point to run a mile and as a result it is possible for people of all levels of fitness to participate.”

The athletes, represented by GSE Management, have joined Olympic legends Dame Kelly Holmes, Denise Lewis and Colin Jackson, and 2012 gold hopefuls Christine Ohuruogu, Rebecca Adlington and Keri-Anne Payne in pledging support for the Standard campaign.
