Seles a smash hit in Madrid

Top seed Monica Seles cruised into the semi-finals of the Madrid Open claycourt tournament with a 6-3, 6-2 win over fifth seed Anna Smashnova, of Israel.
Seles, seeking her 53rd career title, will now face Argentina's Paola Suarez, who defeated her compatriot Clarisa Fernandez 6-4, 7-5.
The other semi-final will be fought out between Chandra Rubin of the United States and Colombia's Fabiola Zuluaga.
