Leicester retained top spot in the Zurich Premiership as the league's surprise package Sale lost out by a point at Saracens.

The Manchester club outscored their opponents 4-2 on tries before succumbing to a late Luke Smith penalty. Charlie Hodgson, released by England after bench duty against Australia the previous day, missed the crucial conversion of Martin Shaw's last try which allowed his opposite number Smith to land the final blow.
