South Africa hooker Bongi Mbonambi says Rassie Erasmus’s honest approach has been vital to the Springboks’ revival.

Erasmus has transformed the team since he took over in February 2018 and they will reach the World Cup Final if they beat Wales on Sunday.

Mbonambi has revealed how it is the 47-year-old’s willingness to keep everything out in the open that has sparked an upturn in form.

Mbonambi said: “I truly believe that he is the sort of coach that has a very honest opinion of each player, and will tell it to you honestly.

“He is not the type of coach that will maybe do things behind closed doors. He does it openly, in front of the whole team, and everyone knows about it.

“You have more freedom to express yourself and be yourself. He doesn’t put you in a box, and that has been the outstanding thing this year.”
