Saracens have rewarded director of rugby Mark McCall and six members of his backroom staff with long-term contract extensions after they won their third Premiership title in four years on Saturday .

McCall has been in charge of Saracens since the 2010/11 season, when they won their first Premiership title.

He has also overseen successive European Champions Cup titles in 2015/16 and 2016/17. Significantly, one of those to re-sign is Alex Sanderson, the defence coach who had been rumoured to be on England’s radar following the loss of Paul Gustard to Harlequins.

But Chris Wyles’s 10-year stint at Saracens ended on Saturday, as he is one of several players moving on. The USA winger scored two tries as the 2016-17 champions Exeter were blown away 27-10 in his final game for the club.

The inspirational Schalk Brits, another key cornerstone of that dominant run, also retired after the final.

Wyles says he will now transition to life as “a superfan”, watching Saracens every week. He, like Brits, will pursue business ventures.

“I expect the excellence to continue,” he said. “You look at the quality of players, management, coaches, support staff, right up to the top with Nigel Wray, their commitment is incredible.

“We have had amazing players come and go but the hallmark of what we are trying to create is that the culture pushes the group on.”

Sarries’ England contingent, led by Owen Farrell and the Vunipola brothers, joined up with the national team today to train ahead of their departure for South Africa this weekend.
