London Welsh 16 Bath 9: Christmas comes early for Nick Scott

Nick Scott admits his London Welsh side are ahead of schedule in their battle to beat the drop after his last-gasp interception try helped them secure their third win of the season.

Bath old-boy Scott picked off Stephen Donald’s pass to run 70 metres for a converted try off the last play of the match that extended the gap between Welsh and basement club Sale to eight points.

Scott revealed that Welsh’s pre-season plan was to start hitting their stride around Christmas but they are now well on their way to picking up the six victories Welsh boss Lyn Jones reckons will keep them up.

Scott told his team-mates not to think the job was already half done and said they may need more wins than ever if they want another crack at the Premiership next season. “It’s a massive bonus to be where we are at this stage,” said the winger (left). “Before the season we always talked about hitting our stride at Christmas because we’re a new team and it takes time to gel.

“The coaches and players have been surprised at how well we’ve gelled but I think that we’re competitive.

“When teams visit us we do really well and pick up points. But look at Sale and London Irish below us. They’ve got quality players, so we may need a couple more wins than usual to be safe.”
