Carter vows All Blacks will step it up

Dan Carter sent out a warning to England today, claiming the All Blacks have room for improvement despite handing Scotland a 51-22 mauling.

The Scots scored three tries at Murrayfield yesterday but fly-half Carter ensured the world champions made a victorious start in Europe by kicking 21 points.

He also directed the All Blacks attacking play to enable Julian Savea (twice), Israel Dagg, Corey Jane, Andrew Hore and Ben Smith to score tries with simple but outstanding handling. With England their final match on December 1, the All Blacks will be right up to speed by the time they come to Twickenham.

“I’m very happy,” said Carter. “We wanted to get this tour off to a good start and were up against a side full of energy and intensity and they really took it to us, so I’m really pleased to get off on the right foot. It was pleasing for us to score a few tries but there are still a few areas to work on. For periods of the game, especially the second half, Scotland really took it to us.”

All Black flanker Adam Thomson could be banned after he was sin‑binned for stamping on Alasdair Strokosch’s head.
