Robson rant fires Robert

13 April 2012

Newcastle manager Sir Bobby Robson tore into Laurent Robert at half-time and then watched him rip Real Mallorca apart in a 4-1 win that should be enough to take them into the UEFA Cup quarter-finals.

The Frenchman spluttered his way through the opening 45 minutes but after the break the £10.5million winger created two goals and scored a stunning free-kick.

"I just told him to wake himself up," Robson said. "In the first half, he took a corner, a poor corner which hit the first defender, and it took him 17 minutes to get back to the halfway line. But in the second half, he was a player again. You can't work him out."

Fernando Correa headed the Spaniards in front after 57 minutes before goals from Robert, Craig Bellamy, Alan Shearer and Titus Bramble.
