Rebrov 'still has a future at Spurs'

Tottenham manager Glenn Hoddle today claimed that unsettled striker Sergei Rebrov still has time to carve out a future for himself at White Hart Lane.

Rebrov has failed to secure a regular first-team place since Hoddle took over last season and the record £11million buy has been linked with a summer move away. Valencia, Fulham and his former club Dynamo Kiev are all understood to be interested.

The player has stressed that he wants showdown talks with Hoddle as soon as the season is over.

Hoddle substituted Rebrov at half-time during their 1-1 draw with West ham on Saturday but maintained it was a tactical decision rather than the final nail in Rebrov's career at Spurs.

"Sergei hasn't become a bad player overnight," Hoddle said. "He has great talent. I've seen it on the training ground. He just needs to reproduce it in the Premiership.

"Maybe it is the style of football he's finding hard to adjust to. A goal would make a big difference.

"It's all about confidence and I won't knock Sergei as his attitude has been really refreshing. It's been difficult and frustrating for him but we have spoken many times and it is only a matter of something clicking for him.

"Once he gets a goal, the confidence will come back. Sergei is a Tottenham player and we've spoken privately about the situation on many occasions. He has had good form here before and we are working towards getting that back."

Spurs have already arranged two friendlies before next season. They go to Crystal Palace for Simon Rodger's testimonial on 31 July and to Watford for Nigel Gibbs's testimonial on 3 August.

Meanwhile, Christian Ziege will be out of action for two weeks after having bone splinters removed from his left foot. The 30-year-old wing-back picked up the injury against West Ham.
