Quins celebrate impressive win

14 April 2012

Harlequins all but guaranteed their engage Super League status for next season with a magnificent 28-26 victory over Bradford Bulls.

Two early Lesley Vainikolo tries gave Bradford the lead but Quins hit back with three tries in five minutes from Luke Dorn, Lee Hopkins and Chad Randall.

Tyrone Smith touched down for Quins after the break before Paul Deacon and Brett Ferres went over for the visitors. However, Henry Paul's four goals proved decisive.

Bradford got off to a great start, scoring two tries in the first 15 minutes from Vainikolo - but Paul Deacon missed both conversions.

Randall pulled back six points with a try converted by former Bulls star Paul, only for Shontayne Hape to restore the Bulls' eight-point lead four minutes later.

The game turned in five mad minutes around the half-hour mark. Luke Dorn started it in the 27th minute with a long-range interception try, picking off a Deacon pass.

A beautiful piece of handling by Matt Gafa set up Hopkins for another try three minutes later, and the home fans could not believe their eyes when Randall burrowed over the line from acting half-back.

After a drop-out by the Bulls at the start of the second half, Smith accepted Rob Purdham's pass to crash over near the touch line. Paul missed the conversion.

But Bradford hit back quickly when Deacon took a short pass from Terry Newton to touch down over the line. A high tackle from Newton gave Paul the chance to kick another goal before Brett Ferres scored a final try for the Bulls.
