Owen 'happy' to be at Newcastle

12 April 2012

England striker Michael Owen insists he is committed to Newcastle and is determined to produce his best for the club next season.

Owen has endured two injury-ravaged seasons since joining the club from Real Madrid and there have been rumours linking him with a move elsewhere.

But the 27-year-old wrote in his column in The Times: "I believe that these can be good times to be at Newcastle, which is why I am more than happy to be here."

He added: "There has been plenty of speculation about my future, but I can assure the Newcastle fans that I didn't start any of it.

"There was a lot of talk from other quarters and my attitude to rumour has always been to ignore it.

"I prefer to let my actions speak for themselves and I just wish there had been more opportunities to show the Newcastle fans what I am capable of. I am sure that is to come this season."
