Overnight freeze claims Hornets clash

Frozen pitch
12 April 2012

Watford's Coca-Cola Championship match against Swansea has been postponed due to a frozen pitch after the undersoil heating failed at Vicarage Road.

A pitch inspection on Saturday morning ahead of the afternoon match found the surface to be unplayable.

Several other matches have also been called off as a fresh cold spell causes problems.

The League One fixture between Oldham and Brentford has been called off along with the League Two matches between Cheltenham and Darlington, Rotherham and Macclesfield and Lincoln City and Dagenham and Redbridge.

The Blue Square Premier match between Chester and Grays Athletic has also been postponed.

In the Scottish First Division, Dunfermline's match with Queen of the South has joined Morton's fixture against Airdrie United in being called off.

The Second Division fixtures between Cowdenbeath and Stirling and Peterhead and Dumbarton had already been postponed but the meeting between East Fife and Clyde, and the Third Division clashes between Forfar and Elgin and Annan Athletic and Albion Rovers have been called off.

Postponements continued to be announced as the 3pm kick-offs neared.

The Blue Square Premier fixture between Kettering and Crawley was a late victim, as was the Scottish First Division match between Ayr United and Raith Rovers, despite Ayr insisting their pitch was playable.
