Jordan Spieth and Brooks Koepka will have to overcome challenging playing conditions to remain in contention on day two at The Open.

The Met Office expects Friday's conditions to be the toughest of The Open weekend and joint leaders Spieth and Koepka have been handed afternoon start times, when the rain is expected to set in.

Though Friday's first groups contended with blustery conditions, the 180-degree shift in wind direction meant the early starters were assisted on the opening hole - one of Royal Birkdale's most difficult.

And while there is a risk of a brief shower at around 10am, those teeing off in the morning appear to have pulled the long straw.

Indeed, joint leader Matt Kuchar (8.36am) and birthday boy Paul Casey (8.25am), who is one shot back, will be back in the clubhouse having avoided the worst of the weather when Spieth (2.48pm) and Koepka (3.10pm) take to the first tee.

The day's strongest winds will come after lunch, while heavy rain is anticipated around 3pm, and will last into the evening.
