Ahead of their performance at Twickenham this Sunday, the Los Angeles Rams cheerleading squad told to the Standard they are ‘feeling confident’ after weeks of preparation.

Meagan, Shardia and Amanda are three of the cheerleaders that have travelled over from the US to perform at the American football game against the New York Giants.

Since arriving in London, the squad has been sightseeing and trying some classic British food, including fish and chips.

Shardia, from Jacksonville, told the Standard: “It’s absolutely beautiful here so we’re really enjoying ourselves.”

Amanda, who is originally from Denver, said: “I think we all know when we need to be healthy, but we all indulge in ice-cream, pizza, and we had fish and chips last night.”

The squad has been preparing for their London performance for weeks ahead of the match at Twickenham on Sunday.

Meagan, who comes from Northridge, said: “We have practice twice a week and we practice on game day before we start. We practice quite a bit but we have a little bit of time to relax before the game too.”

Shardia said she thinks Londoners should adopt cheerleading for football matches: “Cheerleaders are natural leaders, you have a lot of energy, you’re always smiling, you’re motivating people, so I think in a young lady who wants to be a cheerleader, and it sets you up for life and prepares you for a lot of things in life.

The squad gave the Standard a sneak preview of their performance at Twickenham

“I started off cheering when I was like four and I cheered all the way through college and now I’m in the professional league.

“So you just kind of start when you’re younger and you train and you get better and you audition for the professionals.

“You definitely should have cheerleaders – for every team. Why not?

“You don’t have to be a girl; I cheered with boys all through college. I think it’s more about building each other up and having energy and motivating your team.”

Amanda said the nerves for Sunday’s match at Twickenham have kicked in slightly, especially after a recent embarrassing moment.

She said: “I’ve slipped before just doing a kick so that’s what we’re a little nervous about on Sunday: if it does rain, it does get slippery in your boots.

“But you just act like it didn’t happen - you just get right back up. But I was definitely embarrassed.”

Shardia added that the squad is excited and ready for the game on Sunday: “We’re definitely feeling confident, we’ve prepared for a few weeks. We have five routines that we’re doing on Sunday, so we’re ready to go – but there are always nerves.”
