Lewis Hamilton dedicated his dominant victory in the Malaysian Grand Prix to the victims and their families of the missing Malaysian Airlines aircraft that disappeared three weeks ago.

Speaking in a podium interview conducted by actor Benedict Cumberbatch, Hamilton described his victory as, "Incredible".

He continued: "After such a difficult weekend, a long winter, for such a great crowd, I feel so grateful. After such a tragedy a few weeks ago I dedicate this win to those people and their families.

"What a great car and what a great job from everyone."

Hamilton’s Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg finished second, but admitted he could not stay with the 2008 world champion after attacking him at the first corner.

He said: "I got a great start and from then on I tried to chase Lewis, but he was a bit too quick.”

The championship leader added: "Malaysia you can be proud because your company [Mercedes title sponsor] Petronas has taken us to the front of F1."

Four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel, who like Hamilton had retired from the first race, felt he did have the pace to challenge Rosberg at times, but in the end was well beaten into third place by his fellow German.

The Red Bull driver said: "I thought I had a good start and tried to get into the tow of Lewis to attack him at the first corner, but Nico was on my right so I lost a place.

"At times it looked like we were evenly matched at times in the race, but then he found another gear [late on] and he pulled away.

"In the end these guys [Mercedes] are quick."
