Anthony Joshua beats Charles Martin to win IBF world title

Anthony Joshua won the IBF world heavyweight title courtesy of a devastating second round victory over Charles Martin tonight.

The American champion spoke of his granite chin in the build-up to the bout but crumbled the first time he was tested by Joshua.

After a cagey opening round, Joshua began to break through the American's defence and sent him sprawling to the canvas with a huge right hand.

Martin managed to climb back to his feet but was sent down again moments later and found himself unable to recover.

The swift finish did little to demonstrate whether Joshua had learnt from the mistakes that almost cost him victory against Dillian Whyte in December, but did highlight the devastating power he possesses.

Joshua's rise has been meteoric but, despite claiming a world title in only his 16th professional fight, is adamant his work is not yet over.

The 26-year-old told Sky Sports: "It's only quarter of the way there. There's still a lot of work to be done. I've done two rounds, so I'll go to the changing rooms and work on the pads.

"I've got people like David Haye and Tyson Fury calling me out so I need to keep improving. Every fight gets better and better. I want to give value for money and I appreciate the ongoing support of the fans."
